Throughout the current school year, Corrymeela has been working in partnership with Malone Integrated College on a Year 8 project, ‘Learning and Living Well Together’.  Through workshops, teambuilding days and a residential, the young people have been learning about issues of good relations, diversity and integration. In March 2018, two special assemblies were hosted by the Year 8 pupils to share their learning with the rest of the school and celebrate their success.

The project was facilitated by Corrymeela Associate, Hedley Abernethy, who said:

“It was important that we recognised  and celebrated the diversity of Malone College. The project was building on the  already strong integrated ethos within the school. It was a pleasure to work with the Year 8 pupils, their form teachers and other accompanying teachers and I thank them personally for all their support.”

The project supported the diverse year group to build a strong and supportive classroom and school community. Some comments from young people included:

“We had so so much fun that will not be forgotten.  My favourite part was identifying each other so we get to know each other.  I learnt that we can work together if we want, we can plan together and do it without ruining it.”  – Ahmed

 

“I learnt more about my classmates and I learnt teamwork is very important.  I also learnt more about what Corrymeela does.  I enjoyed Corrymeela very much.” – Jiwoo

 

“In Corrymeela we played outdoor activities such X men and team building games.  I learnt that everyone is different and don’t judge people for the way they look”  – Mya

Corrymeela has been actively working in partnership with Malone College for the past three years, including with their 6th form Leadership Team as part of the Humaneyes Project.
