Zimbe!: building community through song
20 Apr 2024
Fisherwick Presbyterian
Join us for an evening of African–inspired music in Fisherwick on 20th April at 7 PM, featuring the Irish premier performance of Zimbe! Come, Sing the Songs of Africa! by renowned UK composer Alexander L’Estrange.
Zimbe! is a choral fusion of African song and jazz. A collection of infectious, spirited songs takes us from sunrise to sunset on a single day, showcasing the ways that music is woven into everyday life in Africa. Songs include a lullaby, children’s playground songs, a drinking song, wedding songs, funeral and liturgical music.
Zimbe! is scored for SATB chorus, children’s choir and jazz quintet. This first Belfast performance will be presented by a massed choir of over 100 local children’s and adult voices under the musical direction of Dave Stewart and accompanied by the Call me Al jazz quintet led by Alexander L’Estrange.
